Perseid Meteor Shower, Part 1

On our way home from our (freezing) Joshua Tree trip for New Year's, a couple of my friends and I decided that we must come back for the Perseid Meteor Shower (thank you Steven for promptly booking us an amazing group campsite).  Despite the 100 degree heat, I had such an amazing weekend - there's just something about Joshua Tree that you can't help but fall in love with.

A night sky so peppered with stars that it's hard to catch every meteor shooting across it, and a clear view of the milky way left me in awe.

Joshua Tree - Part 3

Alas, we've reached the end of the Joshua Tree trip photos - we had so much fun in the park, stopping at random points to watch people climb rocks, walk tight ropes, and take silly photos.  I've never been one to believe in a new year being a big milestone or huge change in my life but it felt right to start 2016 surrounded by nature and great people that I love.  I've really become part of a community in the last year and I'm so grateful for it.

Joshua Tree - part 2

Part 2 of our New Years trip in Joshua Tree.  We started the day with a few slams at Denny's like true Americans.

I wish we had more time in the park - we definitely have some epic hikes planned for the next trip.  I would like to say thank you to my friends who tolerated my camera in their face but it brings me so much joy (and maybe one day I'll get good at it).  I am going to make a real effort to take more photo trips with friends this year.

New Year's in Joshua Tree - Part 1

Sitting around a fire, sipping champagne and giggling with friends was a lovely, satisfying way to ring in the new year.

Lying in a sleeping bag for a couple of hours while the temperature dips far below freezing and all the water at your camp site turns to ice overnight? Less than ideal...but still a good time.  I can't remember the last time I saw so many stars - it felt like we could reach up and touch the moon.  We definitely purchased an annual pass and will be back to the park soon - it's simply gorgeous.
